Mooneera has studied and performed Middle Eastern Dance for over ten years. Initially trained in American Cabaret style dance, she has drawn inspiration from a variety of traditional ethnic dances such as Arabic, Egyptian raqs sharki, Turkish, Greek, Lebanese, Andalusian 'belly' dance, Flamenco, Hawaiian, Tahitian and Modern dance.
With extensive experience performing at festivals, weddings, family style restaurants, and on stage, Mooneera strives to present traditional costumes and music appropriate for the audience, occasion and/or theme. Mooneera is also a former member of the multi-award winning Troupe, Raqs Sahibat. She is currently conducting group and private lessons in Middle Eastern Dance, as well as performing at several regular venues.
Born and raised in the Bay Area, Mooneera's Latin American upbringing has always surrounded her with music and dance. Whether dancing and singing with family or appreciating the cultural diversity of music and dance in local clubs and restaurants, she showcases traditional dances and adornments of the Middle East, while incorporating her own Latin heritage with Andalusian style music and dance.
Mooneera received her bachelor's degree in Biology from Cal State Hayward and is drawn to outdoor activities such as cycling, snow skiing, boarding, rock climbing, and kayaking. The natural progression in her life led to the pursuit of a career in the fitness industry and Physical Therapy. With a lifetime of experience in movement behind her, she strives to include this knowledge in teaching elegant techniques in style and posture as well as rendering unforgettable performances.
