Call them “small plates” or “Tapas” , this noble ritual of enjoying and sharing
different dishes simultaneously in a casual, or more formal way, came from
Spain with one clear idea or philosophy in mind; To bring us all together at the
table, in the enjoyment of different flavors, experiencing something different in
every bite. At La Taza de Café we have chosen to re-invent ourselves and bring
a little innovation  to this unique custom by bringing to you flavors and traditions
from Cuba and Latin America.
Bienvenidos!!!!!
What are Tapas?
Tapas: [Tah-pahs] a Spanish
tradition of dining on small plates.

Originally the tapa was a slice of cured ham placed
over the mouth of a wine glass. The verb tapar
means “to cover”; thus the origin of the word tapa.

Tapas?   Whether they may be the Spanish version
of an Italy’s “antipasti” or Mexico’s “antojitos”,
many in the Bay Area are enjoying yet another
creative way of fueling the dining scene.  Call them

Tapas are not necessarily a particular kind of food;
rather, they are a style of eating and a way of life
that is so very Latin and yet so adaptable to the
lively and diverse Oakland. The tapas way of life is
completely in tune with the Cuban and Latin
American character.

To eat Tapas-Style is to eat without pretension, free
from rules and schedules. It is meant for those who
wish to enjoy life to the fullest and who love to
spend time sharing delicious and savory small
plates with friends and family over a few glasses of
wine or sangria and interesting conversation.

Tapas as a way of life, most generally agree, go
back to the nineenth century and began in Andalucía,
located in Southern Spain. Tapas and the
conviviality they embrace are an essential part of
the Andalucian social world.
